a) you don't want to put Ovi on the right side. Adam Oates did that and it was an awful experiment. b) you'd need 2-3 more 1st round picks to get the most prolific goal scorer of the generation at age 31. he's got 3-4 more years of 30+ goals left most likely, and that package is not enough unless the Caps are in full rebuild which they are not. Nice thought though...

1.) Reinhart and Nylander are top end trade pieces. Trading for them doesn't mean you are starting over. Reinhart had 43 and 47 points in his age 19 and 20 seasons. Nylander is considered the best prospect not currently playing in the NHL in the world (sporting news).

2.) Ovechkin is 31, but turns 32 before the season. He also has a huge salary cap hit. You talk about a few more seasons of 30+ goals, thats great if you make 5.5 million, not 9.5 million

3.) I agree, its probably 2 first round picks. I would say Kane, Reinhart OR Nylander, 2 firsts gets it done. Unless washington retains salary. But Washington is not going to move him.

This is one of those rare proposals that would make both teams worse.

Not even close, and I like Nylander.
