Boy, I remember the good old days on CapFriendly, when guys would start constructing trades by thinking about what the OTHER team(s) needed, and then check their cap situation. Now, people just say to themselves Mmmm, who do I want to trade away for some good assets that will be valuable much further into the future than my guy(s) will be?
You think that we need a third top center at an $11 million cap hit when this trade uses up $10 million of the $7.5 million in cap space we have before filling the last three open spots on our roster, never mind signing the big-ticket free-agent #2LhD we so obviously need to take the next step? Never mind the idiocy of trading the entire careers of two future cornerstone players for two seasons of John Tavares, which would be absolutely horrible asset management. Never mind Tavares' absolute NMC, either.
We wouldn't trade those two youngsters for Morgan Rielly and your 2023 and 2024 first-round draft picks. But at least that offer would make some logical sense.
