Description
Expecting a fairly quiet summer for the Avs other than trading for a 2C. Keep the D-core together and give Malinski a shot in camp to beat out some combo of Hunt/Johnson/other depth D on PTO.

Cap crunch leads to some young guys getting a shot early in the season. Meyers is due for some positive offensive regression. Foudy is a fit for a middle 6 role. Pavel is a name that keeps coming up as a guy with good fit on the 4th line. Heavy checking game and good in the face-off circle. Really good fit between Cogs and LOC.

This also leaves room to make deadline moves for a wing if Foudy/Meyers/Pavel struggle to fill their roles. This Avs core should have no trouble getting into the playoffs. They need to use the early part of the season to give some young guys a chance to show they can contribute on ELCs. Then upgrade at the TDL for the cup run. Ultimately need to know who can help the core moving forward as Landy comes back and Toews gets extended.

Additional Details:
Doubt the Avs pick at 27th OA. Expecting this pick moved for a 2C. Hayes is a better fit in COL than with Torts. Good cheap solution for 2C with Philly retaining.

This looks like Philly doing the Av's a huge favor. Id expect a larger return for 3 years of Hayes at that cap hit.

Ya I agree. I do think Hayes to Colorado could make some sense but that is too much retention.

Price might be off a bit, but several Philly fans have been ok with it. Could see a few additional assets going to Philly or elsewhere to split the retention.

3 years of retention is almost unheard of in the NHL. Especially when its a 2nd line center at 3.6m. 27th OA doesn't get it done in my opinion. As a Leafs fan id be comfortable giving up our 1st around that range and prospects possibly future mid round picks at that cap hit.

I think the market would be HUGE for Hayes at 3.6m for 3 years.

Edit: Just to add I think its a great idea and creative for the Avs and potentially other teams around the league.
