Matthew wants to win and the Leafs can't do that in the playoffs to save their lives... so he might go to a contender that has proven to have some post season success like Carolina and that's a pretty fair return for him tbh

I'd argue that he doesn't hate to lose. I would also argue, there is no guarantee at all that he re-signs with the Leafs.
