Description

Let the kids play. Get some picks, prospects, open up spots in the lineup for the young players. If the team sucks again, great, they'll add another top pick to the roster. If not, great, the young players will have proven they can contribute in the NHL. Sitting and waiting and doing nothing is the worst thing the Avs can do. Sakic should have been the most active GM this offseason...there is still time but he has shown no inclination to make moves like this. COL should be selling off any and all usable vets and retaining salary/amassing assets for the future. Here is my take. Feel free to let me know how badly I valued the trades in the comments

Imo, Sakic isn't doing anything because he doesn't believe the Avs are ready to launch a full rebuild. I agree with him. Their best players are entering their prime or already are in their prime. They trimmed the fat on the roster from last year and cut all the old, slow guys. The oldest player on the roster is 31. They have promising young players coming up and competing for a spot. Bednar will have a full summer and training camp with a new staff. This Avs team will be way faster and younger. I think they are a top 4 defenseman away from competing for a playoff spot. At this point it looks like Duchene will stay for this year so our forward group is going to be pretty solid.
