You should. Take a look at the Hurricanes contract situation. They have only one year left of true Stanley Cup contention before they need to rebuild. They will still be good but nowhere near as good and maybe not even a playoff team. Getting Scheifele lands them a proper Stanley cup 2c. If they resign Staal they’ll have a better 3c than KK. With Scheifele they only need a proper goal scorer and one of Raanta and Andersen to be set up to win it all

Look at their contract situation. They have 3 players signed long term. Kotkaniemi is one of them. He's 23, and is a defensive monster. Carolina have been successful with plug and play parts before. Trocheck, Nino, Hamilton, DeAngelo were all easily replaced. They'll re-sign Aho and then they'll be fine. They'll still be a Stanley Cup contender and they'll still have absolute mounds of cap space. Then when the cap goes up, they get to re-sign Slavin and then they can use the deepest prospect pool in the league to supplement their losses. There's no bluechip prospects in the Canes pool, but they have so many guys that can fill in on the back end and up front. They're going to be fine. If what you see is pending regression, maybe you need to look closer
