Description
A few thoughts.

Obviously GMs say one thing in press conferences and do another, but Dubas noted not being interested in buyouts (Granlund) and trading away assets (1st round picks and high end prospects, of which the pens have basically none).

So lets say they plan to keep Granlund, I think they have to put some solid guys on his wings and I think Fast and Engvall would be good options.

Dubas also said he wanted to add younger players to the roster and that definitely will not be an easy task.

I have no idea what the status is on the Rangers and Lafreniere. I'm not sure if they plan to sign him, trade him, i really don't know and it seems pretty up in the air at this point. I'd consider trading for him if that's what's needed, but a 1st overall pick that clearly hasn't lived up to his potential, and in my opinion would be a great player on Crosby's wing, bump Jake down who can play just as well with Malkin.

This adds youth, and shores up the LW position. Again, no idea what the status is on him, I'm just taking a stab here and i've read that 3x3 would be the deal most like for him given his age and performance so far.

To me this would also be a great move for Laf for selfish reasons. Gives him a chance to turn around his play a bit to edge closer to the expectations of a first overall pick by playing on Sid's line and when he hits free agency at 24 he can sign a big contract.

The Jarry rumors were $6M aav, maybe he takes less to try and stay with the core.

Doesn't make sense for PIT to move Granlund at this point. They have enough cap space to sign players and they don't really have the assets to dump his contract. It's not like he played a lot for them, he's still relatively new to the team. Perhaps a different spot in the lineup could benefit him, never know until you try. You're overpaying for Engvall here by probably $1.25-$1.75M.

It's tough though... burying 8M between Granlund and Carter isn't an easy pill to swallow (Thank you Ron Hextall). I do think Granlund can be moved, they have the assets to do it if they wanted to, they just don't want to it seems.

They could also obviously buy him out.

I would be curious to see what he does with better line mates going into the season, a completely rebuilt bottom 6 could benefit him.

Fair on Engvall, but do feel he lands around $2M AAV, it's not a great UFA market so feel middle 6 players are going to get a bit more than normal.

If the pens keep Granlund, it’s as Zucker’s replacement on line 2. The pens aren’t signing big name long term free agents. So it’s just bottom 6, a goalie or 2, and a dman or 2.
