Description
I see a lot of outrage by fellow fans on Twitter regarding the Toffoli trade. First thing, it’s a great trade for the Devils and a good trade for Calgary. Toffoli’s value was killed when he asked to be moved and the devils get a great scorer coming off a career year to fill into their top 9 or top 6 at an amazing cap hit.

Calgary gets a young hard working forward who still has potential and room to grow in a higher role where he was unable to fulfill in NJ. He has an opportunity to grow as a player here and I’m caustiously optimistic. I’ve only heard great things about him from Devil fans.

I originally had Buffalo as our first trading partner, but after some thought and feedback from Sabre fans, I don’t see it. Noah Hanifin is probably the next guy out and this is an opportunity for the Flames to get younger and recoup some assets and for the Pens to extend their window. I may be reaching here with the trade a bit, especially after the Toffoli return, but Hanifin is younger and slides right into that top 4. I think we may get one of those guys in a deal with the pens but I don’t see us getting the 14 pick, especially in this draft. However, Conroy needs to get a first round pick in the return.

Vladar is a casualty of Wolf needing a spot, he’s ready.

I think the Flames ultimately extend and sadly overpay to keep Elias Lindholm on the roster which really hurts our opportunity to rebuild and retool properly.

The remaining vets are there and they’re moved at the deadline depending how the Flames do during the 23-24 season.

Let me hear your thoughts, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but that’s the fun part of ACGM!

I definitely want Hanifin in pittsburgh and he wants to play in the US on his next deal, so that checks out. I also think he'd be a phenomenal add and they'd ink a new deal before the season.

Not sure what the price is as you noted though... I agree it wouldn't be the 14oa this year, IMO the only way the Pens trade the 14OA for a player would be for someone like Debrincat. Could definitely see the 24 First, the other piece who knows... maybe RFA rights for Smith, or maybe POJ, i'm not sure you get Poulin too.

The Toffoli deal by Conroy was definitely odd imo... nothin on Sharangovich, but felt like he could've received more for Toffoli, so it makes me wonder if the price on Hanifin is more given his age, but also still not a ton... idk plus an 8 team NTC

I agree that I was hoping for more with Toffoli, but I’m happy they moved on rather than extending him into his later years. I think when it comes to Hanifin, I did mention that I don’t think we’d get both POJ and Poulin and it would be one or the other. Although I’d be happy with Smith as well.

I'd be perfectly fine doing 2024 and Smith for Hanifin, but time will tell...

I think Lindholm is the big ticket trade deal for Calgary imo
