I like the trade, but Minnesota doesn't need Sheahan. The whole point of trading Staal is to clear up cap and give guys like EK time in a top 9 role.

Why is everyone trying to trade Staal away from the Wild? The Wild only have 2 top-6 quality centers: Koivu and Staal. Granlund and Coyle aren't anything more than 3Cs, but are top-6 wingers. Center depth for the Wild is pretty barren after Staal/Koivu. They have some guys that can play center, but aren't really true centers or are rookies (JEE/Kunin).

JEE will either be 3C, 3LW, or in the AHL if he isn't ready for the NHL full time.

The only way to the Wild trade Staal will be trade deadline, if they can't reach the playoffs. Otherwise,, it won't happen.

But as a Pens fan, I'd like to see him in our team as our 3rd line center.

Rental a defender of the third pair, player AHL and 3th round is all much less than the cost of Staal.

Granlund just put up 69 points last year, that' sounds like what I would want from my 2nd line C
