Explain to me this "logjam" at LD... because it just looks like a bunch of guys who are not as good as Girard... who is a 24-year-old top 4 D locked in at $5M for the next 4 years... This is why you're the team sending a bit of a surplus of draft capital. Meanwhile, the Habs have up to 14 NHL calibre forwards under contract...
Montreal is getting the better player, at a younger age, on a team-friendly contract, and $500K in cap space... but you're worried about a 2nd and a 3rd round pick lmao.
The Avs need a Top 6 winger, and they have a surplus on LD... They give up the better player to fill an area of need, and get 2 picks as a result.
They're not playing best player atm. That's obvious up until now. They're developing their young talent, nurturing them into talents bigger than Girard. Trust me, I love Sammy G. He'd be going home, and I loved what he did about the forest fires. Class act. However, this is a trade this Habs organization doesn't seem inclined to do. They still need to keep spots open for their developing players because they don't see themselves competing until at least 2024-25. Matheson, Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Hutson, Engstrom, Trudeau, Beaudin, Norlinder, Struble, Nurmi, Mittelstadt are all LHDs. Now, most of them won't be as good as Girard, but acquiring another LHD to that list that they wouldn't want to play high in the roster is not on their charts.
If it was on their charts, they would not have traded Joel Edmundson, a player highly valued in the organization and locker room who did not request any form of trade. They traded him to clear up their very real logjam.
