Zadina who we (and everyone else) just passed up taking for free + a LD we don't need who doesn't fit our window + a 1st and a 3rd, and its a 2025 1st at that. Sorry, but I don't see it.

I'm sorry but what exactly do you think you're going to get for a player with a injury riddled past at 11.5 a season? The return will be extremely similar to this. No contender is giving up anything even close to this without significantly more retention. Pittsburgh or the Canes could give multiple late round 1 picks but they will want 35-40% retained to fit under the cap.

He's not at 11.5 per season in this ACGM, he's at 8, which is very reasonable for a 101 pt defensemen who just won a Norris. If you were taking him without any retention at all I would say this was a good return. I don't know what we'll trade him for, but two 1sts and a solid prospect is fair I think for EK65 at 8m per year, especially with the cap likely going up and the Sharks having zero pressing need to trade him.

This deal is a 1st that will likely be in the back half of the 1st round, a vet who won't be around long (and we already have plenty of LD we're trying to figure out what to do with), a prospect that no one wants, and a 3rd. I'd be shocked if the offers from Pittsburgh, Carolina and Seattle aren't better than that even if they don't include multiple firsts.
