Description
I get the excitement on landing someone like EK but I think penguins fans need to be more realistic about the possibilities.

Petry most likely won't waive for SJ and I'm not really sure there is another option for him as hard as fans try to find one. Davidson said Chicago's roster is done outside maybe a depth option or two, but they feel comfortable where they are. Said things can always change but sounds like they want young guys to fill out their defense. I don't see any other fits for Petry after that where he wouldn't have his NTC standing in the way. He played just fine last year and I think the top 4 as is would play just fine.

I would much rather see an aggressive move like this for Miller. It was a popular rumor last year, but he was not worth 2 1st round picks, and still isn't in my mind with his contract.

Miller is the Canucks lengthiest contract right now with the vast majority of their other contracts up next summer or the following, with Pettersson up next summer and set to get a big contract this would help their future cap situation. Granlund falls off in two summers, also gives them additional center depth and they could even flip him if they decide to so that they can really maximize the cap/assets to build around Pettersson.

As for the penguins, Miller can slot in well on Geno's line and would provide center depth should Geno or Sid pick up an injury that has them out for a couple games.

Think going for an option like this would be far better for the penguins than going for Karlsson, and allows you to maximize the forward options.

As it stands the bottom six is something like:
Nylander-Granlund-Acciari
Nieto-Eller-Carter

A move like this imo would be a massive boost to the top 9

That first round pick covers taking on Granlund! Now you have to pay for Miller.

Vancouver counters. The Canucks have interest in Granlund, the rights to Hallander, the 2024 1st round pick (PIT), and the 2025 3rd round pick (PIT).

a 41pt player doesn't cost a 1st round pick, like that's just not a thing. He has two years at $5M, he's probably worth $4M. If he was 40 years old and had 5pts last season, i'd get it.

He's a cap dump. Maybe not a first, but still is a cap dump. It still remains that Miller costs way more then this
