As modest as the return package to Anaheim seems, I have a feeling the Sabres still would want some retention by the Ducks to be part of any Gibson deal - having his $6M cap hit may not be an issue in this coming season but there are enough signs to think, even with the league cap increasing, that the Sabres' future extensions not only for Dahlin and Power kicking in but anticipated extensions for Quinn, Peterka, Krebs and Levi in the next 2 years will have them pushing up closer to the ceiling than they've been. There's also the cloud of Pegula's willingness to start spending as freely as he did when he first bought the franchise.

I don't see the need or space for another forward, much less a center like Henrique when they already have Thompson, Cozens, Krebs, Jost and Mittelstadt available to play in the middle.

I dont disagree that buffalo would want retention, I thin however that immediately jumps to a 1st rounder + depending on the amount retained[/quote]

My two cents- the Sabres centers were somewhere between not very good and horrific in their own zone. I expect cozens to get better, not sure about the others, but it wouldn't hurt to grab a vet to play 200 feet, win a draw, or kill a penalty.
