Description
If ANA doesn't want Rutta I think you could work on a Deal with Arizona, they're short on the backend and I imagine that both Stecher and Durzi get dealt at the TDL this coming season.

Nothing Crazy has to happen in this scenario, you buyout granlund with the second window form DOC's arbitration, trade for a much stronger 3C candidate in Henrique that can step into a 2C role if needed. Move DeSmith and Rutta to provide additional cap relief for DOC and Ty Smith.

I think this is a far more reasonable roster to go into the season with and has a far higher chance of happening than a Karlsson deal, and you give up much less.

PIT
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,000,000 retained)
ANA
  1. Légaré, Nathan
  2. Rutta, Jan
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
  4. 2024 6th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
A duck fan noted a week or so ago that they think Henrique retained could cost a b prospect and 2nd.

I have that plus Rutta. This would give the ducks an extra $1M in cap space, ( i know Terry and Zegras still haven't been announced) but also an addition dependable depth defenseman. He could also be flipped again at the deadline.

Before ducks fans immediately say "NO" i see 5 dman currently, two being colton white and robert Hagg, i'd argue Rutta is much better than both.
2.
PIT
  1. 2025 7th round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. DeSmith, Casey
Additional Details:
This would be only should WPG deal Hellebuyck it gives them a back up or co-share for Brossoit.

I don't know their farm system at all but it doesn't really seem like there is anyone else that has solid NHL experience or that would be ready to step into the NHL.

I think it would make more sense for Anaheim to wait on Henrique and deal him at the deadline. Ducks should be taking a step forward, primarily with their forward group, so he could get an O'Reilly type return if he gets back to his 2021-22 form

A couple of counter points for you to consider.

1) You are focusing a lot on the Ducks lack of defensive depth with Rutta but ignoring their lack of forward depth with Henrique. The old create a hole to fill a hole problem. As was mentioned the TDL is the most probable time to trade Henrique.

2) The comparison of Rutta vs the current defenders is less important than comparing Rutta vs other trade options from Boston, Winnipeg, or other capped out teams. That the Ducks should add a defender is not open to question. Why should that guy be Rutta though.

3) Legare is no where close to a B prospect. The kid is a bust pure and simple - can't even crack 20 POINTS in the AHL.

That's fair and I totally get that. Maybe Pens could add a bit more to it to make them consider moving now.. aka enough to make them not risk keeping Henrique until the TDL in the chance he doesn't have a great start and is value decreases. Just a thought.

1. totally fair, but the pens don't have many pieces to move up front (I didn't put Granlund because I can't see ducks taking him) should they want that I would swap Rutta for Granlund. Rust has a full NMC so I'm not sure where he would consider waiving for.

2. I mean that's a deep question lol I don't know what those other teams are necessarily looking to do that this point, and for all either of us know they could have other deals in place for various guys, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to answer for other teams lol. I'm also not sure if Boston even knows what they're doing at this point. Moved Hall for Bertuzzi and he ends up in Toronto, Swagman going to arbitration, they don't know if Bergeron or Krejci are going to do so no idea how you expect me to answer that.

3. that's fine, can swap in Puustinen
