Description
It's been too long since I made a Petey proposal.

I'm just praying that he forces/asks to be traded. CBJ would be such a perfect fit with their high-end wings to play with and deep pool of prospects to deal from.

Since VAN seems to be searching for a way to trade Garland, and maybe Beauvillier or Boeser, the young middle-6 forwards coming back could take those roles and are also waiver exempt if there isn't an immediate spot for them.

Petey signs an 8-year extension after the trade worth $96 million for an AAV of $12mil.

Long term outlook:
24-25 Next year, $4m cap increase + Robinson (1.6) + Bean (2.33) all off the books - Petey's bump (4.65) = $7.4m in cap space to sign Marchenko (3m) and Texier (2m) to cheaper bridge deals and give very slight bumps to Foudy (.2m), Blankenburg (.4m) and either Danforth (.4m) or Bemstrom (.2m). Robi and Bean are replaced by Foudy/Malatesta and Svozil/Mateychuck. Jiricek comes up to play full time also.

25-26 In two years, $1m in cap space carryover + a cap increase of $4m + Kuraly (2.5) + Provorov (4.725) + Boqvist (2.6) are off the books -replacements of LDBB (.9m), Svozil/Mateychuck (.9m), leaving room to re-sign Jiricek ($5-6m) long-term at a decent cap hit. Leaving about $5-6m in cap space to give Voronkov a new deal, and filled out with potentially re-signing and giving increases to Tarasov Danforth, Olivier, Foudy, Blankenburg... Some of those guys will have to either come cheap or move on. Maybe Danforth and Olivier go elsewhere and Dolzhenkov fills the 4RW spot.

26-27 In three years, $1-2m in carryover + cap increase of $3mil + Laine (8.7) and Gudbranson (4) come off the books - Fantilli ($8m) signing long term = about $9m left to sign either Marchenko or Laine and fill any other holes. Dumais should be on the roster by then if not sooner.
Trades
CBJ
  1. Pettersson, Elias
Additional Details:
24 year-old RFA and proven 100-pt producer who is still getting better.

Columbus could now have one of the best 1-2 center combos in the league for the next decade. This would make them perennial Cup contenders and would draw value free agents to the city in future years.
VAN
  1. Ceulemans, Corson
  2. Chinakhov, Yegor
  3. Johnson, Kent
  4. Peeke, Andrew
  5. Roslovic, Jack
  6. Sillinger, Cole
  7. 2024 1st round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Kent Johnson is a VAN native and dynamic young player to be the centerpiece of the deal.

Chinakhov and Sillinger offer a middle-6 center and wing with high upside as developing prospects on the cusp of making an NHL impact.

Since RD has been an issue for VAN, Peeke helps stabalize that now, while Ceulemans gives them a future long-term top-4 answer there.

Roslovic is just to send a little money back for this season and gives VAN another middle-6 option who can be a playmaker and maybe play a little center.

An unprotected 1st in next year's draft is a really good sweetener since CBJ have all the prospects they need and if something crazy happens it could wind up being a good pick for VAN.

The old 7 for 1 trade. Johnson, Sillinger, Cuelemans and the first should be the offer if Vancouver is willing to do a small reset. We would have to move Roslovic and Peeke elsewhere for cap purposes or get Vancouver to retain for 1 year.

You may want two top-6 picks, but that's quite the ask and I don't see another team in the league willing or able to pay that, so I wouldn't count on it. From CBJ's perspective, I think Jiricek would be off the table. Johnson and Petey both being forwards can replace one another. I understand other major pieces would have to be involved, and Sillinger, Ceulemans are A prospects and Chinakhov is right there too as an A- or B+.

I get you may not want Rosolovic, there has been no shortage of ACGMs with VAN trying to acquire Peeke. If Petey is getting traded this summer, there is going to be some money coming back no matter what. CBJ could still hang onto Roslovic if absolutely neccessary, and if that's the case, that is about as good of a deal as VAN is going to be able to find money wise and for the amount of good young players coming back.

That's not even to mention the '24 1st, which should be late, but is unprotected so that has to carry some weight.

Depends what you're using the money on. In Vancouver's case, they'd probably be too busy playing at the claw machine to actually go in the store and spend $10, so the quarters might be better for them.

Who's going to give you a 1-for-1 or 2-for-1 trade for Petey that you would actually take? I don't see a team that makes sense with those pieces to move. Kent Johnson is going to be an absolute stud, and you're getting a handful of prospects with top or near top of the lineup potential.

It's not just a bunch of average pieces we're trying to add up. These are some of the best players from one of the best prospect pools in the league. You could swap Mateychuk for Ceulemans if you want, but my understanding was that VAN needed RHD.

Roslovic and Peeke are just to make money work, which VAN is going to have to face in any trade they make.
