Description
Nothing too crazy; PHI trade for a center since they mostly have wingers; no big issues since he only has 2 years left, plus get a pick.

WSH get Mantha going elsewhere, get a 1 year contract back at half price for Hoffman, but gain a 4th wingman in Pitlick to bring their roster up and save over 2M$ in the process.

For HABS fans, I'm even putting Ylönen on the first with Suzuki and Caufield.. I'd love to see if he can produce points being on a first line instead of being a more defensive role on the 3rd or 4th. So many of our past players got sent out to other teams and suddenly became productive. Why not try it?

    the washington deal is bad for mtl, the philly trade just seems like they are going out of the way to make lose that deal.

    the washington deal is bad for mtl, the philly trade just seems like they are going out of the way to make lose that deal.

    Why?

    1. Getting rid of DVorak gives a spot to bring in Monahan, it also give the opportunity to bring up a prospect to center if he gets hurt again;
    2. Getting rid of Hoffman for a half eaten pepermint stick seems to be on every MTL fan's wishlist; He'll do better in WASH;
    3. Adding Pitlick to that trade provides a spot to so we don't need to keep him in the stand while we play Caufield, Newhook and Harve-Pinard of the left side and brings us down to the 23 contracts compliance without sending anyone to Laval (YEah I know.. Wideman.. but maybe he's not inclined to go there and seems to be a leader for the younger ones in the locker room);
    4. Bring in Mantha, he's a one year deal, he can show he still has legs and while people say things about his leadership, some players have actually indicated he's a good voice to have around. Plus coming home could make him revive his career.
    5. What do we have to lose other than games and certify another top 5 or top 10 pick...??

    Remember we're rebuilding here, but we are waiting for contracts to expire in order to have a real rebuilding plan. RIgh now, ARZ are showing that getting bad trades help, then bring in player with the cap space they have and require picks instead of prospects so you can pick and chose your list forward.

    Dvorak actually got value, we should get a 2nd at 50% retained. Hoffman is a sh**hole, but we are losing out on picks by taking Mantha for retained Hoffman, since both are 1 year cap dumps, but Hoffman becomes significantly cheaper with the retention. Its not getting rid of the players that I don’t like, its the bad asset management

    These are super nit-picky points but:

    1) You cannot retain salary in a trade and receive FC. It's disallowed by the CBA
    2) Zero chance Ylonen gets more money than RHP/Pitlick/Harris, even with an extra year of term
    3) I like the Pitlick & Hoffman for Mantha deal quite a lot. Habs have the cap space this year, but need the roster spots
    4) Trading Dvorak makes no sense. Monahan cannot be trusted not to get hurt. We should start the season with 6 centers. It's a good thing.
