*sigh* people somehow keep missing this point, that just because the Coyotes hover around the salary floor DOES NOT MEAN that they'll take on any big contract. if they were going to take on a contract with a high cap hit, it has to be one where they pay out relatively little of the salary.

why did they trade for Bolland? because he has potentially career-ending injuries, and, while he's on Injured Non-Roster, they only owe him 20% of his salary; insurance covers the rest.

why did they trade for Pronger? his contract was super-back-diving and only paid out $575K in salary over the last 2 years (and the contract was insured, anyway).

why did they trade for Datsyuk? his contract was voided because he bolted for the KHL, so no money was paid out in the last year, but the cap hit remained because it was a 35+ contract.

why would they never trade for Nathan Horton? his contract wasn't insured, so any team with his contract has to pay out full salary.

why would they never trade for a big contract like Bogosian's or Marc Staal's? because they're a) owed a lot of real salary and b) healthy and take up roster spots.
