Description
Tampa adds a top 6 W at the deadline for a Cup push. Although odds are they won't be able to re-sign Barabanov, if neither Sheary nor Jeannot has fit well on the 2nd line(and none of ABB,Goncalves, Groshev, Merela etc have taken it), Tampa may look for someone like Barabanov. Tampa could possibly switch out the player/prospect as well, within reason. They can still roll with a 22 player lineup by either moving ABB in this deal or a separate transaction, and Myers wouldn't have to go either to make the cap work.

If Barabanov has another productive season (10-12 goals 25-35 assists by TDL) I think 50% retained would require a 1st. This would be fair without retention.

A worse and oft injured player at a higher cap hit, no thanks. Barabanov can create more offense and him with either Stamkos or on the top line would be good. Until Duclair shows he's back to some form resembling 2 years ago, no thanks(and if he is playing lights out before the tdl, Tampa shouldn't be interested in the overpay S.J. will probabalh want).

Doubtful Barabanov is getting a 1st unless there's something else coming back, as he likely won't be in the top tier of rentals available and not that many 1sts usually get moved. Maybe he does though, but it won't be from Tampa, as they very rarely move 1sts(in any year) for ufa rentals that they likely won't be able to re-sign(Savard being the one exception of course).

Barabanov will be the Ideal rental at the TDL as a guy who puts up .75 PPG at what would amount to about 1 mil in pro rated cap come TDL. With everyone almost maxed out the options for upgrade on a tiny budget will be slim. Supply and demand will push his value up, same with Duclair if he rebounds.
