Description
Scenario: Nearing the trade deadline, CGY is sputtering and looking to be out of contention. CBJ are hitting their stride and making a push for the postseason.

Sillinger has played top-6 center for the year so his stats are inflated by playing lots of minutes with good linemates. Boqvist, similarly is playing 2nd pair with Provorov and looking good from his deployment. Neither are blowing the doors off, but both look solid and have some decent offensive production with getting PP2 time as well.

CGY sells their remaining UFAs to reload for next year, and CBJ sell a couple excess young players whose value has recovered a bit during the season. At this point, Jiricek should be well ready to step in on the second pair, and should ascend to the top pair in another year or two.

I think the trade package is probably right, but I'm not doing $9.5 for Lindholm. I'd stick $8M-$8.5M.

Long term, you have a C core of Fantilli - Lindholm - Voronkov - Kuraly, which I like. Put Boone back on the wing and lower his play time.

If Sillinger is working out as a 2C then I don't see why the Jackets would trade him. You extend him for $3-5M for a good number of years instead of paying $9M+ for the decline of Lindholm.

I'm in favor of the trade simply because Lindholm is better than either player right now, but I don't know that I like the extension. I get that six years probably requires a higher AAV but I am very leery of 9.5 to Lindholm when we're looking at having to pay Johnson and Fantilli a lot of money during that term period, and probably Jiricek too (I could see Marchenko being moved in a goalie deal, for example).

I mean, "working out" is pretty open to interpretation. I think he could do okay there but by having more ice time and better linemates his numbers would surely improve, making him more tradable.

I personally just don't believe in Sillinger. I think he has some skill and a decent work ethic, but he lacks some major awareness that I'm just not sure is going to come for a several years, if at all. We've got enough young centers with Fantilli, Vronk, maybe KJ and LDBB, that I think Sillinger should be sent away in an upgrade for a better top 3/6 guy like Lindholm. I just really think Lind's defensive prowess and style would be a great fit on this roster, and a big upgrade to the top-6.

Lindholm is a hot potato contract. Yeah if he signs an 8mil contract that will be fine but he wants his bag.
