Hawks decline. Takes more than a 2nd to dump two years of Schmidt with that cap hit.

I totally get that. But, also, I like Rashevsky A LOT, and I like not burning a retention slot on Perry for assets, and we are probably going to need to fill more cap space and add more stop gap dmen who can play the right side while we have zero RHD knocking on the door to the NHL. Kind of a catch-22, but I might be ok with something like this.

I understand both sides of this, too... Some other dynamics in play with this are that Schmidt can play BOTH D sides, and I heard he's a good mentor. It's not like his presence is blocking any RDs we could come up into the NHL over the next two years.

Last, that MTL #2 pick could be quite good this year; perhaps a lot better than WPGs. For these reasons and the ones previously mentioned, I think I'd do this deal, too.

Sure. Rashevsky is a solid prospect. But it's looking more and more like he may never come over to play in North America, so is he really an asset? Most every Jets fan on this site said he was coming over this season. Instead, he signed a new 2 year contract to stay in the KHL. Quoted as saying he's happy on his current team and it's the best place for him. So he's at least 25 before he makes an appearance in North America. So for me, Rashevsky has little to no value in this deal. Giving up Perry and adding 2 years of Schmidt, for a single 2nd doesn't work for me.

The only way I see this happening is if the Hawks have another deal in place to move Murphy, then they may want to bring in another veteran RHD to pair with and help mentor the young LHD.

If you get good young assets/draft capital to move Murphy and then more to bring in Schmidt, it could be a windfall.
