Description
Maybe this is stupid but I don't think it's such an asinine idea to look at this from either side.
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. Broberg, Philip
  2. Campbell, Jack
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2025 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Why it makes sense for the Caps: Adding a good LD prospect and two first round picks for taking on an awful contract. The caps won't be good this season or next year while they're waiting on Oshie, Backstrom, and Kuznetsov's contracts to run out. At that point, there will only be two years left on Campbell's contract and the cap will be much higher. They could buy out his contract after that season and only have cap penalties of 2.15, 2.45, 1.35, and 1.35 million starting in 2025-26 and lasting through 2028-29. Or, they can let Campbell split starts with whoever the Caps' starting goalie is for a year or two while they try and compete. He's shown he can be a starter in Toronto, so there is something there. If he can be a .900 goalie, he could at least be usable. I know he hasn't been that, but the potential is there. Regardless, the caps won't be good in the near future and should capitalize on moving Dowd and Kuemper before they can't get any value for them.
EDM
  1. Dowd, Nic ($650,000 retained)
  2. Kuemper, Darcy
Additional Details:
Why it makes sense for the Oilers: Adding an important bottom 6 piece at below league minimum for two years and adding a bonafide starting goalie for a reasonable cap hit.

I really like it a lot for both sides. IMO Washington should go for like Akey or someone else because theyre pretty set on the left side but I like the idea of the trade a lot for both sides

Hard to see Caps doing this while they are going for another Cup. You can make the argument they shouldn't and just pack it in, but as long as Ovi is here they aren't going to pack it in. Maybe they do it so they can flip the assets for something better and hope one of their young goalies can be the starter. Hard to see happening though.
