Description
Not sure exactly what will happen but my spidey senses say something like this…

Brodie can be retained and flipped if CBJ wish and brings some stability now and could get extended, NMC waived as Jarmo promises to move him if he decides he doesn’t want to stay…contrary to what some say I actually think Brodie likes this role in a smaller market vs current situation

Robertson, Holmberg and Niemala do not fit into TML plans now and never but are good prospects with WE and Columbus see the upside

Mostly this is a get a new start thing and roster shuffle, the feeling on both sides is their rosters are better now and in the future.

Leafs get a little more cap space even with Robinson starting with the Marlies but he may get called up and Minten back to Jr after the road trip.

Next deal could be Bean and or Timmins packaged for a bigger and badder D or even just Timmins for a pick if TMLs like Bean

Everybody happy…

None of these guys improve things

There's a reason Robinson is in the AHL

Then you got CBJ fans hating on Peeke saying he aint a top 4 Dman and his values dropping to where they are fine getting a 5th for him

And last but not least Bean. With Rielly and Klingberg not needed

In general this would be a very bad trade for Tree to do

I dont see him adding till closer till the TDL as its to early to tell whose working and whose not

He may also be waiting on the Bear or Timmins front. As if he can sign Bear no need to add to make a trade for now. Same if Timmins comes back and picks up where he left off in preseason

In general this trade benefits CBJ more than Toronto. Brodie is better despite his age and losing 3 young promising players for those depth guys is a no no

Brodie wouldn't be in the lineup in Columbus. They have all the stability they need with pairings of Werenski-Severson, Provorov-Jiricek, and Bean-Gudbranson.

Niemela would be waiting 3 years at least to get a shot in the CBJ lineup and that's *if* he outplays Ceulemans and Blankenburg who the Jackets currently have in the minors.

Don't see much of a future for Robertson or Holmberg either with Dumais, Voronkov, Malatesta, Chinakhov, and Brindley coming up over the next 3 years.

The goal for Columbus right now is much more simple than this trade. Just move out a defenseman to reduce the number of defensemen on the roster to 7.

Ya I do think Bear is a good and less messy option fs but I disagree with some of your other points as I think ones trash is another’s treasure…

In the case of Peeke he can be a Schenn for Toronto (maybe and maybe not) and I think Robinson especially in the playoffs can be a traditional 3\4 LW…

I do agree with you on Bean and that’s why in the description I said he will get flipped.

I do appreciate and value your insight tho on this and many other posts, thanks!

Luke schenn's sample size in Toronto is small

Basing an idea on 11 playoff games not the best. How do we know Rielly-Schenn would have worked a full 82 games. Soon as he goes to NSH hes on the third pairing

Peeke is a 3rd pair guy. If CBJ fans are already complaining about him with Werenski what are we gonna say with him next to Rielly whose not as good defensively.

And getting someone just to be flipped makes no sense

In the end this is a bad trade. Losing the better defender in Brodie and 3 young pieces who could be on the team soon considering the struggles is not wise.

Brad can add Bear in FA without losing anything and see how it goes if by Dec/Jan things havent improved you add

Certainly Peeke for a pick to a team with cap space makes the most sense but if that were simple it may be already done.

I appreciate the response though as I don’t know the Columbus roster as well as other teams, thanks!

I do like Columbus though, I had them improving by up to 20 points in my August predictions but like the Leafs I think they need some roster tuning and trimming and that was the intent of my trade idea. The 3 prospects I proposed could be changed to better suit Columbus…maybe Kokonenn is more ready then Niemala.

All that said I feel like Peeke comes to Toronto and sadly the Toronto fans and media will destroy him further…much like they did Holl, Schenn way back and countless others. Or maybe and hopefully he will be Schenn 2.0…but younger.
