Giving Nylander a penny over 10 mil would be a huge mistake. Hard pass.

Toronto will give him $11M+ probably. He'll stay in TOR.

Yeah. I honestly wouldn't be comfortable giving him more than $8.5M. It would be a big risk that could force CHI into unnecessary cap troubles down the road. If CHI was ready to compete, had more of their long term pieces already in place and locked up, and had the cap space to spare, I might consider that kind of signing. We aren't even close to that, though.

I'd do $9.25M max. Preferably less as you mention though. I recently did a study looking at what top point getters received based on 1 year and 3 year history as a % of overall cap ceiling. I don't think he's equivalent to Kucherov/Kaprisov, but also included guys like Gaudreau/Hubs. It's a bit surprising how much this upcoming cap jump affects things. BUT overall yeah I do agree with what you're saying. Be wary of the 115 point Gaudreau /Huberdeau years.

All in all...Reinhart is probably the better target.

Definitely. Not saying I "absolutely wouldn't give him more", just that anything over 8.5 would start to feel pretty uncomfortable. Even more importantly, I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable giving a 28 year old 8 years at a cap hit of 8.5 or above. Even with the planned cap raises, 33-36 year old making 8.5 + per year is very risky and could cause a team to cut ties with other players because they can't afford their raises. But you know all this, I'm just over-explaining because ADHD.
