I don't get why Edmonton is giving up 3 good assets to swap one terrible contract (Campbell) for another equally bad contract (Anderson).

In my opinion, that trade should look like this:

Edmonton gets: Josh Anderson and a 6th.

Montreal gets: Jack Campbell and a 3rd.

The only trade that is close is the Sharks one. Maybe if you took out the picks the Edmonton trade would be closer.

    Think for a second.
You have Montreal with $15M in cap space, but you are paying to dump Armia.
You're trading away Barron who has been developing just fine while moving two lefties to the right, and this is with Savard (and Ceci) expiring.
You also moved Kovacevic, leaving us with basically no RHD or depth. Reinbacher and Mailloux, even if they are ready, will not be that ready that quickly.

Because Montreal doesn't need cap space by dumping Anderson's contract. Why move him when his value is at its lowest? He will have less negative value as his contract term diminishes.
Edmonton is the one under pressure and tight to the cap. A $5M forward on the NHL roster is better than a $5M goaltender in the AHL.
