Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Schmid, Akira
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Boston gets a first rounder to flip in this three team trade. Schmid played bad this year, but they get to see if they can redeem him. They need the salary slot for the next trade, so they aren’t willing to take Vanacek.
NJD
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
  2. Ullmark, Linus
Additional Details:
NJ gets a good depth defenseman who is finally starting to play like himself plus a legitimate top 8 goaltender in the league.
2.
BOS
  1. Hertl, Tomas
Additional Details:
Boston gets their number 1 C who’s locked into a long term contract and fits better than Lindholm if I’m being blunt.
SJS
  1. Geekie, Morgan
  2. Lysell, Fabian
  3. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Lysell and a #1 for Hertl. Geekie has been playing well.

In reality, this is probably a deal that could happen in the offseason without the same financial restrictions in place. The harder line position on Vanacek and the inclusion of Geekie are driven by cap considerations.

Its a good idea...especially with the flip.

But because we are into LTIR and have a bunch of ELC's putting up numbers, it locks in between $2.2m to $3.0m of carryover from performance bonuses to 2024-25.

I think the solution would be retention on Ullmark of a similar amount (likely by third party).

charlie coyle is outperforming tomas hertl now that he's been given top six duties. I don't see the point in taking on a massive contract that takes a player to age 37, and paying to do so.

NJD would have to either fully commit to LTIR or clear cap another way. But fair value for right now
