DSP has 78 points in 270 career NHL games. He's taking two thirds of his shifts in the defensive zone so far this year. That allows Ovechkin and Kuznetsov to play in the offensive zone, where they seem to be doing okay. Chandler Stephenson is two years younger, with zero points in thirteen games played, drafted two years later and 35 spots later. DSP is definitely the higher priority "prospect" to "develop" in that he's already an established two way player in the NHL, as was expected, whereas Stephenson is still on the bubble, as is expected. Stephenson could use extra ice time in Hershey, and can come up in case of injuries.
I think Trotz is skating Chorney over Djoos because performance was similar and he's rewarding seniority and organizational experience. If Chorney doesn't get the job done, or Djoos makes huge improvements in practice, they switch. Five good games for Djoos and, yes, Chorney might be on waivers.
