Description
Last year, Skinner-Thompson-Tuch was a top line combo, but this year, Tage has struggled and has been injured (likely still is), and both Tuch and Skinner are well under a PPG.

If there ever was a time to shop Skinner, it was last year coming off a PPG season, but he has the full NMC. With Dahlin and Power's extensions kicking in next year, and Peterka/Quinn/Levi coming up soon, Sabres would definitely like to free up as much money as possible, even though Skinners value is extremely low generally, let alone right now. Is there any team in the NHL that might want to acquire him, or is he unmovable (and assuming he would approve)?

The qualifications for a team trying to acquire him would be in need of a top 6 LW, playoff bound if not cup contender, and has the cap to fit 7-9 M. The Erik Karlsson deal had 1.5M retained by the sharks for approx 4 years, so Sabres would probably have to retain at least that, if not more, as Karlsson was coming off a Norris and 100 points and Skinner having a down year.

Teams that COULD potentially fit this bill: Colorado, Boston, New Jersey, and then outside chances of Blues and Kraken as fringe playoff teams, but Kraken have so many guys with M-NTC it's actually impressive. EDM and WPG were considered, but doubtful Skinner waives to go to a Canadian market.

Fans of these teams, would Skinner interest you at all if Sabres retained and added some other pieces?

Trades

BUF
  1. Byram, Bowen
  2. Girard, Samuel
  3. Johansen, Ryan
Additional Details:
Colorado gets their 2C and has a top 6 of Mackinnon, Rantanen, Lehkohen, Mitts, Skinner, and Nichushkin, assuming Landeskog is done for career.

This is the least likely to happen as Colorado has a tough cap situation, but is this a starting point Avs fans? Maybe a third party gets involved?
COL
  1. Skinner, Jeff ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. Mittelstadt, Casey [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
The lower retained hit is due to COL receiving a better player in Mittlestadt. The players coming back would either be bought out (Johansen) or potentially moved for other pieces, as there's a logjam at LHD.
2.
BUF
  1. Marino, John
Additional Details:
Skinner, Meier, Bratt, Palat, Hughes, Hischier as a top 6 and they get a goalie that appears to have blossomed this year and figured things out.

NJD has Hamilton, Nemec at RD and Hughes and Siegenthaler at LD. Marino is good and not "expendable", but Nemec likely takes over in the top 4 sooner rather than later. Marino's 8 team M-NTC kicks in this offseason.

Would love Mercer or Bastian to be added here, but again, is this framework a convo starter?
NJD
  1. Skinner, Jeff ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. Luukkonen, Ukko-Pekka [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Trading UPL clears the path once again for Levi to start. Same analysis as Carlo, Top 4 RHD at a good cost, frees cap.
3.
BUF
  1. Carlo, Brandon
Additional Details:
Could this be a conversation starter?

Top 6 of Marchand, pasta, Skinner, Krebs, Coyle, and then one more in FA, to let Poitras develop. A third line with any combo of Zacha, Frederc, Geekie, Heinen, JVR seems very deep.

He does have a M-NTC of 10 teams, so my guess is the western conference Canadian teams, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, the US bottom feeders (From last year) of Arizona, San Jose, Anaheim, Columbus, Chicago, and maybe Philly. Likely doesn't have to put OTT,MTL, or TOR on there as BOS likely wouldn't trade in division with them. IT does hurt D depth but Mcavoy and Lindholm as 1 and 2, might be able to part with Carlo.

  1. Krebs, Peyton [RFA Rights]
  2. Skinner, Jeff ($2,000,000 retained)

Lol, of course you would.

You get a starting goalie and a top 6 forward with retention

Depends on what UPLs contract looks like.

I’m not sure I view Skinner at 7 mill for the next 3 years as a positive at ages 32, 33, 34.

So then it’s if UPL on his contract will provide more value than Marino.

The guy is about to hit 1000 games and has never made the playoffs. At what point do you do what's best for you as a player?
