It does sound like if Boston just waits, they sign him outright. Maybe they give a secondary prospect to get access to him before free agency like Severenson.

This type of trade is if you are concerned about him changing his mind. Still believe Lohrei, a prospect, and a 2nd should be sufficient if that concern comes to fruition. Hanifin is probably higher risk than a lot of rental (hope to sign) types because of the presence of Boston.

Not sure how true this is, but it’s appears like Hanifin brings more friend and family support to Boston games than any other opposing player in the league

I don't think Sweeney is comfortable giving up that much, even if they sign him long term.

Waiting it out and getting him in the summer is probably the plan.

i would do lohrei, a 2025 1st, and forbort for Hanifin, and a 2024 2nd.
