MTL
  1. Pelletier, Jakob [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Classic Hockey Trade. Calgary adds young Dman to immediately slot in on their 2nd pair. Montreal adds a potential middle six forward with 20 goal upside by trading from a position of strength.
CGY
  1. Harris, Jordan
  2. 2024 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Mid June 2024
2.
MTL
    Brett Pesce Rights

Montreal addresses their lack of shutdown RD in the coming years. With Savard and Kovacevic in likely their last season, someone like Pesce would fit to help insulate Reinbacher, Barron and Mailloux who could use another season or two in Laval. No need to rush our young Dmen into positions they aren’t ready for. As well it would allow Guhle to return the left side. Pre-Free Agency Sign and Trade

    MTL
    1. Zegras, Trevor
    Additional Details:
No rush for Hughes or Verbeek to make this trade. I think Hughes will put in a competitive offer this summer, but he won’t trade the farm. Montreal is in need of a star player to join the top 6, and I think with some more maturity Zegras can fit that bill. Anaheim will receive the better of Mtl and Cgy’s 1st’s. Expect that pick to fall between 10 and 20 unless both clubs make unlikely drastic turnarounds next season. Also sending Pit’s 2nd which should be fairly high with Pittsburgh starting to fall apart. Anaheim also gets a young NHL ready RD in Justin Barron. Nothing special about Barron, but he’s a solid puck mover with an improvement in the defensive part of his game, expect a top 4 Dman. Also sending one of Joel Armia or Josh Anderson for Cap reasons. Armia would be a straight cap dump with only one year left on his deal. Anderson still has something to give. A change of scenery to a place with less expectations to be a star could do him wonders. He easily can score 20+ goals a year playing in a middle 6 role. Definitely potential to flip him in a year or two for more assets if he can turn things around. I also think Anaheim could use a guy like him in the lineup while their young core progresses.

Anderson being in any trade to Anaheim kills the deal

Let's put aside the automatically disqualifying element of immediate-buyout Josh Anderson being included in the package, even with the accompanying second to offset him. (Even you admit that he is included in the package "for Cap reasons," i.e., he's only there as a benefit to Montreal alone.)

You want us to trade you Trevor Zegras and run the risk of Montreal finishing in the bottom 10 in 2025 and Calgary making the playoffs? In which case we've traded a two-time 60-point-plus season top-6 forward for "Nothing special" Justin Barron and a pick next summer in the second half of the draw? That would be the epitome of GM malpractice in risk non-management.

I find it both hilarious and definitive that the fanbase responsible for 95% of the Zegras trades isn't Anaheim's but Montreal's. Oh, there's the occasional Brink, Bonk and a first or two from a Philly guy (which is reasonable), and I've seen a couple of efforts by some desperate Penguins fan to cobble together something from their bare larder, but the subconscious admission by Habs fans that they need Zegras (or a line-driving forward like him) is only matched by their refusal to pay a legitimate price for him. You wouldn't trade Cole Caufield for something approaching that package (with the more imminent Edmonton 2024 first and 2024 Boston second replacing the speculative 2025 picks in this package), so why do you think that you get Trevor Zegras for it?
