Hawks need raw talent not more pick and a marginal defenseman.

Hawks don't make either of those trades. That offer for #2 isn't close. The Hawks trading back 12 spots to add more 2nd round picks is a ridiculous notion. And Ferraro isn't even a player the Hawks would target in a trade. Hawks don't need a LD. And the Hawks just keep Donato if the best offer for him is a 5th. As for the UFA group, Hawks aren't giving out any 4 year or longer contracts to anyone in this class. Maybe Chatfield if he's willing to sign for that AAV.

Get the idea here but this isn't close in any way.

Draft-pick-value charts tell us that the difference between the second overall pick and picks 14, 33 and 42 is in the pick 20 area, which the Black Hawks already own. Let's put aside for another day the discussion of whether Ferraro = pick 20. By definition, the chance of pick 20 producing an impact player is far greater than a pick in the 33 - 42 range, and having two of the latter doesn't change the odds much. So this idea doesn't give Chicago much more than what they have right now, and the enormous quality gulf between the player drafted at #2 and the player drafted at #14 should dwarf any other consideration. In short, I think that having picks 2 and 20 far outweighs the benefits of having picks 14, 20, 33 and 42 and Ferraro. I think that this is an instance of quality beats quantity.

Hawks get robbed here value-wise.

If the sharks were paying that price, they would likely only move up to like 4-6OA max
