Description
Hard to tell what all the FA defensemen are going to go for, I thought Roy 5.5-6.25 is kinda fair with 5 or 6 years. Marner trade seem fair? Bush probably gets more than 1.35 and walks, but the idea is just to sign an additional stay at home D as the #7 guy. I think this team lacks a little grit, so maybe the Toffoli money could go to a grittier guy, which I'd be fine with, but it's hard to deny the great middle 6 scoring he'd bring.

Debrusk would be a better add than Toffoli. Switch Rielly and Theodore in your pairings. Rielly isn't a top pairing d-man and should never be on the PK. He has an extremely low d-zone hockey IQ. I think bringing Cowan in next season is feeding him to the wolves. He is a feisty winger and needs someone on his line to take care of him.

I'm not too bothered about what the top pair actually is. Rielly will still play well over 20 minutes a night, as will Theodore. I imagine they will both be double shifted on occasion, Rielly specifically if he is no longer expected to run PP1. Rielly will play Penalty Kill minutes however I believe you are right and that he will play far less next season with this D-core here than he did this season. I'm not entirely sure why people like Debrusk so much however? 40 points in a full season at 17 minutes a night (More than any leaf forward outside of the core 4) and it wasn't even like he didn't see pp time. He did have 11 points in 13 playoff games though I suppose, and has a little more edge to his game, but lacks real offensive talent. I rather bring back Bertuzzi at that point. I do like your point about trying to pair Cowan with another feisty winger however, because I do think that could make for an excellent energy line with offensive touch.
