I'd do it but I think it's a tough sell in real NHL FOs to trade two second liners on good contracts (actually good for Strome, perceived to be good for Wilson) and a starting goalie on a great contract for a rental no matter how good that rental is.
I think leafs fans need to prepare themselves for the reality that in the NHL only two things happen in scenarios like this:
1) everyone comes to their senses, no trade is made, and marner extends at probably too much money and too much term (exactly what happened with Nylander)
2) marner is traded for the standard rental package that any player that can remotely be considered a top 6 forward or a top 3 d gets: one first round pick (top 5/10 protected), a team's 4th or 5th best prospect, and a pretty solid roster player to make the cap work. It happened with Karlsson, Eichel, Stone, Meier, etc.. People will freak out about everything and depending on how the lottery ticket prospect works out the Leafs either look like geniuses (OTT with Norris) or complete idiots (OTT with Brannstrom)
