Description
Danil But and Dmitri Simashev are both removed from their shared KHL teams site.
It would suggest the 6'5 and 6'7 towering russians taken 6th and 12th last year are working out a deal to come to North America or they're both getting traded in the KHL but its weird they were both removed at the same time.

I expect them to need time in the AHL adjusting given their gargantuan size
In that timeline UTah will be built to really start picking up steam.
Until then i got them on "Taxi squad" with Geekie/Demidov to show they're close ,keep them in mind.

With the 5th OA pick ARZ Demidov over likely Parekh,Dickinson,Buium or Iginla left
All good options but with 6'5 Danil But on Wing having a Center like Demidov is a luxury
Especially with Simashev taken 6th OA last year already having a strong chemsitry with But
He gives them the potential impact needed sooner then later as having a 6'5 dude on your wing will give you a lot of confidence.

Why Trade down? to assure they get Demidov, to upgrade their D, and to make a splash.
New owners move into a position where they're good today but left room
That way as Simashev is ready Matheson or Valimaki will be gone or in their final years.
Danil But is in a position Schmaltz will be in his final year allowing Gautier,Kakko and him to play top 9
Demidov has All sorts of room as you might sign Bjugstead or Kerfoot after this year but not both
Geekie will be up likely before Demidov but will settle into a 3rd line role
That is unless he can get the jump by positioning himself between Keller and Schmaltz
That would put him over at least in the moment anyways but likely Demidov-But will rise together

2025-26

Keller-Cooley-Geunther
Maccelli-Geekie-Kakko
Crouse-Demidov-But
Cacone -Lafferty -Doan
Janik

Simashev-Durzi
Moser-Trouba
Matheson-Kesslering
Valimaki

They re-sign Ullmark this time next year to an Extension of 5m with 3 years term with protection via NMC the first 2 years.
The last year he submits a 15 team no trade list
And half in Signing bonuses

Utah locks down Goaltending
Utah locks down Defense with a hell of a lot of shot to be blocked by offensive and defense Dmen alike
Utah has Size and Skill that only gets bigger as the years progress

The hope is Ullmark helps 27 year old Ingram who's playing great
But Ullmark can help make him better over time in a great tandem

In the end Utah gives up 3x Second Round Pick ,1x Third Round Pick and 1x Fourth Round Pick
They trade up at higher end and down at low end

I'd say MTL accepts cause we trade up 24 spots in the second round to go down 1 spot
We move Matheson but get McBain and a 2nd Giving us a hard hitting Power Center was want Dach to be.
Now Dach can play wing where he thrived and play with Roy and McBain

BOS im not sure as i value Hayton as a Center who can take Bulk Faceoffs in the middle 6,not sure about them
He's got top 5 Metrics in advanced team stats on a bad team but on BOS i think his skill shines more.
I think he'll settle in as a guy who takes 1200-1400 faceoffs a year while contributing 30-40pts on the low end
If he wasnt top 5 in most team Metrics i'd be more worried but given his age and roster
I'd say he'd done pretty well since his Rookie season at 21 three years ago

NYR i dunno i just took a shot in the dark on that one
Trouba i know has ties to NYC but i figured if he does waive if his Fiances School is done
That Utah would be a decent landing spot especially for a Doctor starting out assuming she's done school.

Trouba would become the 1st Captain of the Utah Yeti's
With Matheson and Valamaki wearing A's for the Dcore rotating Away and Home games
Also Keller and Schmaltz wearing A's for the Forwards rotating Away and Home games

They'll develop the Dcore with likely only Trouba being resigned of them after their terms up.
Cooley,Guenther,Simashev and Moser will take on bigger roles wearing the A's as Mentors leave
But Trouba will be the Captain of this build likely until he retires.

Say what you will about him he blocks a lot of shots and protects the youth.
Its what Utah needs right now in a 4 line team thats offense by committee
Unlike when VGK or SEA got their teams Utah has high end prospects ready now or close
If they can get the ball rolling year 1 going on a playoff run some of said players in the Taxi squad will join the run
Some pieces could be upgraded but not until after this season or at the earliest TDL
You want to see where Geekie, Demidov, But and Simashev are exactly as they might be ready now
i know Geekie will be one to keep an eye on for that.
Its why i went with Lafferty and Kerfoot in bottom 6 as they produce there filling a hole
Didnt want to Commit but wanted to be able to produce and thought about Boyd>Jost
Then decided with Laff there its redundant to have Boyd if you want to play Doan in the NHL anyways

After this 1st season i expect Utah to make another Big Splash, just dont know what
Should be fun to watch them in real life build their team up given the assets they started out with

Trades
1.
UTA
  1. Matheson, Michael
  2. 2024 1st round pick (MTL)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
-Utah trade up to 5th from 6th OA

-Trade Down from 33rd to 57th OA

-gives up a 2nd in 2026 outright

-McBain for Dvorak Swap for Balance.
MTL
  1. McBain, Jack
  2. 2024 1st round pick (UTA)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (UTA)
  4. 2026 2nd round pick (UTA)
Additional Details:
10th in Blocked Shots in the NHL and 2nd in production,Special teams and Ice Time Categories among Shot blockers.

Trouba/Matheson will carry this team in contrasting ways but it. Utah Trades Down with McBain for Dvo but gets the chance to profit of Dvorak twice potentially a 3rd time as they profit by taking him so that Utah trades down rather then trade away any piece outright but a 2026 2nd
2.
UTA
  1. Kakko, Kaapo [RFA Rights]
  2. Trouba, Jacob
Additional Details:
-Reduced return on Kakko to move Trouba
NYR
  1. Söderström, Victor
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (FLA)
  3. 2026 4th round pick (UTA)
Additional Details:
-About where Kakko is with more expected at this point but maybe NYR system that produces Stellar D can crack the Soderstrom puzzle.
-Depth picks to compensate the difference

Now i know many on here see Trouba as a Cap dump while i see it more like McDonugh where if they could afford to they would but cant right now. While about 3m overpaid he's a solid Shot Blocker and overall Defensive Dman who like Matheson is a high end shot blocker at 12th in the NHL. He will help this Dcore greatly so they're ready for Simashev to take over in 1-2 years time.
3.
BOS
  1. Hayton, Barrett
  2. Kolyachonok, Vladislav
  3. Vejmelka, Karel
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (COL)
  5. 2025 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
-Conditional 2nd becomes a 1st in 2026 if ARZ wins 1 round in the playoffs with Ullmark starting 2 games or more.

Some of the contract are significant underpays, and Montreal and Boston definitely pass.

Mathesons in Guhle and Hutsons way
LD market is all but dead right now
Literally no one needs a LD who plays 25+ a night
I wish it wasnt true but i defy you to find a team that will take him and give you more.
I've tried for the better part of a year since Guhle's growth was Dwarfed when he was moved to RD to get minutes as Matheson was hogging them on Left side.

Utah is basically the only team in play who could use a LD or two who play those kinda minutes
I mean i keep saying CGY but their fanbase hates me now for pointing out he'd fit in there system but i digress.
I coulda made this trade easier without him with a lot less hoops but it had to be him for the good of the youth.
Especially if MTL does what i think its gonna and take another Defenseman if Lindstrom and Demidov are gone in the case we kept our original pick

Plus we get to move up significantly to capture 6'7 Dean Letourneau who's likely to fall just outside the 2nd round.
MTL gets to Take BPA hopefully Iginla but likely Parekh or Buium so trading down allows us to grow the 6'7 french giant guilt free and gives us McBain >Dvorak
MTL walks away with room for our Dcore's Studs to grow before the new wave of Dmen turning pro start pushing like Xhekaj and Guhle did with Barron, Harris and Kovacevic
Or Struble and now Hutson with this year it likely to be Mailloux and Reinbacher pushing with odds on Engstrom overachieving too. So if Moving Matheson shakes you up 2026 is gonne be rough on you

So 6'7 French Center , McBain and a 2nd round pick next year to move Matheson and down 1 spot from 5th OA to 6th OA when we'll have another quality pick including many that can replace Matheson from Buium to Dickinson, Parekh to possibly Silayev who at at least 3/4 of those D will likely be available at that position with Buium NHL Ready as he's done it all going out on the highest high in the NCAA.
