If the Oilers hadn't passed on the trade they were supposedly offered by Montreal. Yamamoto would have been the oilers 2017 first round pick. At the time this would have been a huge cap relief of cap for montreal, so they may have been willing to retain $1,000,000 of PK's salary

Edmonton actually had the 1st round pick (acquired from a trade with Pittsburgh) that was used to select Mathew Barzal in 2015, but traded it to the NYI for Griffin Reinhart. If they hadn't made that trade they'd be far better off.

If the Oilers had decided to take a chance on Eric Staal in the off-season, instead of Lucic. Going after centre depth instead of a big power winger

If the Oilers had decided to move down in the 2016 draft to select a right shot defenceman. They move from the 4th overall pick to the 14th, but aquire prospect Jake DeBrusk (who grew up in Edmonton).
