Description
Goal: Playoff run strengthening and gaining some draft picks
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. Dahlbeck, Klas
  2. Jooris, Josh
  3. Lindholm, Elias
  4. 2018 6th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
For WSH, the idea in this trade is to get rid of Orpik's salary and also get something that can produce in return. Lindholm is a decent forward who can be put basically in any place in the team, whether it's 3rd C or TOP6 winger. Caps also get a depth d-man and a depth forward. Caps may lose a lot of assets in this trade, but they also get something decent in this trade.
CAR
  1. Barber, Riley
  2. Burakovsky, André
  3. Grubauer, Philipp
  4. Orpik, Brooks
  5. 2018 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
For CAR, the idea is basically to make hay when the sun shines. since they can afford to take some strengthening in their team. From Grubauer, they get a decent and young possible starter goalie for them and from Burakovsky they get a winger that has potential, but hasn't quite reached it in Washington, so maybe a change of scenery works for him. For taking two profitable players, they also need to take Orpik's horrid contract, but they can probably re-sell him with retaining some of his salary. That is something Caps cannot afford, if they are resigning Carlson. They also get a draft pick and a prospect to make this trade seem more lucrative for them.

Not interested in trading Cole to a divisional rival. Plus, PIT is giving up the highest pick(even though it’s only a 6th, I’m picky).

Giving too much up in CAR. I understand they are taking Orpik but you're giving up a young, great starting goalie, a young top 6 winger, and a future middle 6 player, and a decent pick, for basically just Lindholm and getting rid of Orpik. Not worth the trade off.

Giving up WAAAAAAy too much for Vanecek. Boyd and Pilon look like real good prospects and Vanecek could get you a lot more in a couple years.

PIT says no.
