Premise: Melnyk drives this bus and it's left to Dorion and MB to make it happen. Not something I would necessarily want, I'm just looking at the possibilities. We all know Karlsson is worth a ransom, but does that go out the window when finances are more important than success?

Galchenyuk for Brassard, on the other hand, could be an even swap, making Galchenyuk, Duchene, Stone, the 1st line for the future, while Montreal gets the center they've been seeking.

I read it. Doesn't make this trade at all realistic. Eug would probably just let EK walk before okaying this deal

That's another possibility.
Weber and 2 high picks for 1 year of Karlsson, with real cash savings for several years to help with the budget, isn't the worst idea for a penny pinching owner though.
Gives the illusion of spending closer to the cap, without the actual money out of pocket.

Terrible idea. Think more than 1 year ahead. And Montreal needs a 1C, not a "Top 6C".
