Montreal doesn't need a rebuild right now. If you guys miss out on Tavares, you can go after a combo of players (like Stastny and Perron). Move Plekanec this year for a decent return, MAYBE move Galchenyuk and Pacioretty for a few NHL-ready kids if the drama is causing an effect in the locker room, and take advantage of a rested Price next season. Keep your picks instead of moving them for rentals, and you'll be fine for another 3-4 years.

Getting a kid like Quinton Hughes at this year's draft gives you some solid defense stability in a few years, even with an aging Weber.

I can't agree with that. Keeping Weber and Price for sure, but the rest has to go, rebuild/retool needs to happen.

Montreal most definitely needs a rebuild, make it a 3 years at least rebuild.
Price needs to go
Pacioretty needs to go
Weber needs to go
Shaw needs to go
Petry needs to go
Alzner needs to go
Byron needs to go

This team is not competing for quite some time.

Tear this joke of an organization from top to bottom.

Bergevin just signed a franchise G to a monstrous deal. He moved out a great, young RHD for an aging but still great RHD. He moved out your top prospect for a new face of the franchise.

The Canadiens have been put in the position where they HAVE to go for it once they have the pieces available to them. The Weber/Price window shrinks exponentially with every year the Habs decide to "rebuild". Take the year to gain some prospects - move on from your UFAs, Galchenyuk, and Pacioretty - and use NHL-ready returns to bolster a few more years of competitive hockey. The Atlantic is super weak, and the metro looks to be in a state of regress right now. There's no reason as to why the Habs shouldn't be in the postseason conversation next year.
