I bet Tampa like the trade. Terrible for the Leafs.

Aside from the crap shoot of draft picks that literally could be any picks as they see fit... It doesn't matter that the Leafs take the Carle contract(2 more years at 5.5m BIG WHOOP), it would include getting another AHL goalie to replace bernier and they get Drouin. Grabner will be gone regardless, Gardiner plays 1 good period in about a 2 month span which is enough for people to forget that he is a turnover machine. Leafs dont want to give up any young players so if they dont require one in return then bonus.

No, 5.5m cap hit a year is too much. Rielly is getting a new contract, likely Kadri. The Leafs might want money to take a run at Stamkos. So money does matter. Leafs have two goalies in the AHL they like. and it certainly looks like Sparks will be Leaf next year. Gardiner's play has improved considerably this year.

You act like they are going to be close to the cap next year.... miles away unless they sign some dud UFA's for no reason. There is no indication that they are getting Stamkos so life goes on until the day he signs then maybe you can worry about cap. Also relax a bit. I already stated if they traded for that goalie he would be in the AHL.

Suggest that you "create a team" for the 2016/2017 Leafs using this website. You'll see how close to the cap the Leafs are.
