That would be an interesting idea, very reminiscent of Subban/Weber although both had term remaining, EK's impending free agency may throw a wrench into it, but a creative idea nonetheless

Both are 2 of the best d-men of the league. They have the same level. But there're 2 problems with your trade.

First, Burns is 32 and Karlsson is 27. So, Karlsson's value is higher than Burns because of their ages.

Second, the trade doesn't make any sense from Senators perspective, cause they need more assets to be consider a contender. So, why trade their franchise player on a one on one trade for an older player?

Sorry, but no way.

Burns is at least locked up so you know he cant leave and since melnyk is cheap burns' salary will be less than what karlsson will ask for, and burns still sells seats so you never know

8 years for a 32 player is too much. I can see a similar problem in his contract that Bruins faced with Chara's contract when he got a 7M contract.

Besides, I still think Senators prefer to get at least 2 young players and one mid-age plus a 1st rd pick with Karlsson.

That makes more sense, cause they have a thin roster in terms of quality.

Not sure this makes sense for either side. If the Sharks want JT (I can dream!) they'll need money for him. Burns while on an 8 year deal, is locked at 8m. Karlsson will get an 8 year deal and probably 10-11.

I'd rather keep Burns and go after a FA center.
