I'm okay with this because I am too tired to care and want to see something happen. Giving up a lot of hits though. Orpik has 175 this year. Connolly has 58 (and had 137 the year before the Caps signed him). Domi has 39. Hjalmarsson has 11. I'd throw in Chiasson for Schenn and Rinaldo to even that up, in case the Caps face a hockey team in the playoffs, and not just basketball teams.

But really I think the Caps have a good team whose biggest weakness is too much turnover on defense already, and Hjalmarsson might just be finished with his useful hockey career. Still, if the Caps are done with Orpik, they should get back someone another team is done with at a smaller cap hit, that's easier to bench. Three stars for salary retention, even if I wouldn't trade Connolly for Hjalmarsson or Domi straight up, especially with his cap hit next year. Youch.
