Description
New York Rangers 2018-19 2.0
Let the rebuild commence!
That's how badly i'd like to move on from Marc Staal.
After some feedback Chytil & Andersson are playing in Hartford with Howden, Hajeck, Day, etc ... at least to start the season in this mock.

Additional Details:
Deal happens after 7/15. NYR has paid M.Staal his 1 Million signing bonus for the year. 14.2 Million left of real dollars on deal. And like Brassards deal to OTT, that money does not affect the CAP for either team. That's gotta be a loophole they close in the next CBA?

I actually don't think you'd need to include those picks in a deal to Ottawa. In fact, I think it'd be Ottawa that has to send a late pick back. Their defense is utter junk beyond Chabot and Karlsson. If they want to have a legitimate shot at keeping Erik (or even Duchene around), it's an area that needs to be addressed. They free up an extra $1.55M and somewhat fill a position of need. Everyone remembers how good Methot was for Karlsson. Staal is't a Methot, but he plays a similar style so maybe it pans out.

Not sure the STL trade works though.

If you're going to stay the course and rebuild into a second year, would it not be more wise to keep Chytil and Andersson in the AHL to play with Howden and Hajek? Build up some chemistry and confidence in the younger players, allowing them to tear up the AHL before coming up to the big club?

Got ya on the Ottawa deal, anything that would work & Ryan, & a change of scenery may lead to him scoring some goals, add a veteran presence & be a piece to move down the line. Agreed on Staal being a very "Methot" like presence in that lineup.
I figure Zuc would be more of a draft day deal but STL made sense too, with Fabbri coming back to play center & not asking for Kyrou, Klim could be a great piece down the line.
If Chytil & Andersson play in Hartford, that's fine too, having those (2) & Howden , Hajeck & Day play together, obviously not a bad thing. They may make the lineup with good camps.

Not only would you not have to add picks, i bet Ottawa would add something to get that deal done because the Ryan contract is like way worse AND would save the Sens big $$ in actual cash, and Melnyk is a cheap skate.

Why in God's name are you giving Ryan Reaves a Tanner Glass deal. Please just no. Georgiev or Manzanec will be just fine as backups on a rebuilding team also. I would look for a cheaper reclamation that Benoit can coach up and we can move at the deadline, like if Pav's hadnt gotten hurt.

They cant lock Spooner Hayes and Vladdy all up for those kind of deals, would be way to much blocking of Chytil and Lias and Howden etc. Maybe 1 of the 3 gets a long term, one moves at the draft and one gets a shorter deal and plays the wing. I think you are overpaying O'Gara and Vesey in this scenario as well. Vesey is worth way less than Fast, and if people around the league think otherwise it is time to trade him ASAP.

Someone tell Gorton to call Ottawa! & yes Staal has 15.2 Million in Real cash left on his deal with that 5.7 cap hit.

Reaves deal is one year, can be moved, waived whatever if need be, just wanted to get a tougher 4th line. if the kids do come up & play, need someone to look out for them.

Would rather Gerogiev play bigger minutes in Hartford with Halverson . Manzeneck, I'm not sold on, no one is looking at him as viable NHL backup. Georgiev was wildly average except for a 10 game stretch in Hartford this year. Having a vet like Hutchinson who's played a fair amount of NHL games , in the background, is really a must. If Hank got hurt, he can still be Georgiev's backup if need be but the kid should play and he's no lock as a legitimate NHL net minder.

I was hesitant on the term for the RFA's but, any of the 3 Hayes, Spooner or Nemestakov can be moved on those deals, lock up the assets. Spooner already is primarily a wing & Nemestakov plays the wing as well but really slots as a center as he's good on both ends. Maybe give Hayes a shorter deal 2 years at the same AAV & he'd be a UFA at 28 .....move him next year or sooner. If it's at the draft then he's someone else's RFA problem.

O'Gara can may get 850 K -1.115 M for 2 .... same ballpark , same with Vesey, 1.5 -1. 85 M for 2.

it looks like Gilmour, Nieves & Brigas will still be waiver exempt (as well as Pionk & Letteri) ) So some flexibility with recalls.

Hell, we could lose Kampfer, maybe Belesky if waived as well. I'd like to see Beleskey on the 4th line, at least to start. No use in burying a younger player with better offensive upside.
