Description

Just a bit of a what if scenario to gauge what cap space is worth. If Weber either does not return to playing form, or simple gets hurt again and is likely out for the rest of his contract (i.e. LTIR until it expires or he calls it a career) do you think Nashville would chance him retiring early and taking the near 25 million in cap penalty that is spread over the rest of his contract? Or, again assuming a guarantee of him being on LTIR, do the trade for him to at least start bringing down the recapture penalty (he makes less than his cap hit starting next season so if he is with them it starts dropping), or at worst have the ability to buy him out? I don't know if Weber would retire early but in the final 4 years of a 110 million dollar contract he makes 6 million, so his money will have been made.

I know the scenario is unlikely, but just what is avoiding that kind of cap penalty worth?

I'm guessing here since I recall there being some odd specific rule that applied in his contract..
But looking at the buy-out function on capfriendly I believe he won't be bought out until 2022 when his salary drops from 6 to 3 million, or 2023 when it's 1m.
If he spends some years on LTIR before that, I don't know. But he won't be bought out earlier then that.
