Description
Draft: At 4th overall, the lowest the Sabres could possibly pick without a trade, I am going with right handed defenseman Evan Bouchard from London (OHL). Buffalo needs to bolster their defensive youth and Bouchard could develop into an even better 1D than Ristolainen, giving them depth.

Restricted Free Agency: Sam Reinhart will get a similar ‘prove it’ deal to Sam Bennett, but with more money. Scott Wilson has proven he can be a depth scorer, so giving him some decent money and term until someone like Asplund or Davidsson takes his spot. The remaining forwards (O’Regan, Bailey, Baptiste) are all given money near their QO. The final RFA is Lehner — he deserves a starter AAV and a decent term, but he likely isn’t going to be the long term guy. I think Antipin returns to the KHL where he was more successful.

UFA: I think the team should keep a low profile, but grabbing Thomas Vanek gives them a PP threat, a fan favorite and a future rental to sell. Justin Falk has earned a 2 year deal to be their 7th D.

Bouchard at 4th is way too high. Arguable dmen at 4 being boqvist and Hughes. Even if they are both somehow gone before we pick at 4, that leaves svechnikov and zadina to pick from.

I agree but I also don't know if either Zadina or Svechnikov will be available at 4th. But both Tkachuk and Boqvist would be good picks.

I think the go 2 and 3 but just saying there will be better players at 4.

Bouchard at 4th isn’t high at all. Despite London selling off it’s best players like Pu and Thomas, Bouchard led them to the playoffs as a defenseman and led the league in scoring for defensemen at 17 (8th overall in the OHL with 87 points). With Dahlin > Svechnikov > Zadina off the board, Bouchard is likely in the BPA group as well as a needed player.

He also has the size and the tools needed to be successful and is a smart player. I’ve scouted Bouchard (and Hughes and Boqvist) plenty and have him as my highest rated D behind Dahlin. He’s better overall than Hughes, who will likely fit the Ghost Bear mold, and more dynamic than Boqvist).
