ROR wants out of Buffalo and Eichel is ready to be the #1C, which is only going to make it worse. Politics aside, ROR for Drouin would be a good trade. Byron is overkill and giving up a first-rounder is nuts.

ROR straight up for Druin is not a good trade. ROR plays a tougher position, is a better defensive player, puts up more points every year and is the best faceoff man in the leauge. Even is he does want out of Buffalo (which is not certain) he still has a lot of trade value because several teams will be interested in him so teams will have to out bid each other to get him. Also ROR is 26 and his current contract takes him through his prime years and won't cover much if any if his declining years.

IMO unless the Sabres get an offer like the one proposed here then they won't trade him. Look at what the Sens gave up for Matt Duchene. Duchene is older than ROR and they produced at similar levels. Also Duchene was way more vocal about wanting out of Colorado.

Sens regretted that trade the minute they made it. The team went from one goal away from going to the Cup finals to being one of the worst in the league. They could have traded Turris closer to the deadline for a much more valuable player or pick — long term — than Duchene, who is already booking his ticket out of town if Melnyk sells off Karlsson.

Trading Drouin for ROR would be the Habs just spinning their wheels. Getting older and no better. ROR has no history of helping his teams win. He has only been to the playoffs twice in 9 seasons. That's hardly the heart of a lion, right?
