Description
I'm genuinely curious about the Edmonton trade I'd like the Jets to make. You guys are in Chiarelli-imposed cap hell, but have two franchise forwards with absolutely no supporting cast. So basically you need to clear cap, acquire assets, and get a top 6.

With that being said,
Can you afford this trade?
Would you be able or willing to clear enough cap for this trade?
Is there anything the Jets can do to help make this trade better?
What are the chances of Puljujarvi busting?

Just for context, Perrault can play any of the forward positions, consistently get you in the 40-50pt range, and is a top 10 possession player in the NHL. He makes his line mates significantly better whether he's on the 1st or 4th line. He's overpaid for a 3rd liner but would probably slot in as a 1 or 2LW depending on how you arrange Nuge and Draisaitl.

Stanley will debut in the AHL this upcoming season. He's humongous, and had a great year in the OHL since getting traded to Kitchener.

Mason is a good backup and lukewarm starter. If you can afford an extra mill, he's an excellent upgrade to Montoya, and can step in and play if Talbot slumps.

I don’t think the offer for Puljujarvi makes much sense for the Oilers at this time. They’ve already made their plans for a back-up goaltender, so I doubt they have interest in Mason. They have an over-abundance of left-handed defensemen, including prospects; Stanley is a monster, but I don’t think they’d see a need for him. They need pure shooters, preferably on the right side of both 1st and 2nd lines. None of Dano, Tanev, or Perreault could fill that roll. The picks don’t do much to address the pressure that team is under to win now. Oiler fans best hope Jesse Puljujarvi breaks out this next season. He was drafted because he is a shooter, and he plays the right side.

No, I wouldn't make that deal. How about our 2nd this year for Armia and Lemiuex?

So Mason's on the books for one more year. I included him in the trade because he's a huge upgrade on Montoya and viable starter if you're willing to pay a little less than an extra million. If not, you could amend that part of the trade. It's not very important to the Jets one way or the other. We're set with Hellebuyck, and Mason's gone before Laine and Connor need to be resigned.

I think I speak for fans from other teams everywhere when I say that as much as Chiarelli's attitude to spending his assets has been kind of morbidly funny. (I lived in Edmonton for school, so I got a front row seat to watch the Hall trade, and the Lucic and Russell contracts.) Chiarelli has really made it hard for you guys to do mutually beneficial business in the trade market.

The best offer my Jets would be able to make in this case is throwing in Appleton. He's the AHL rookie of the year the past year at RW and C and is an absolute production monster for a guy that came out of nowhere. He's very big, very fast, and scores a lot. Otherwise, it's looking like this deal is wishful thinking, which is a shame since both the floor and ceiling Puljujarvi would be perfect fits in Winnipeg, and Perrault, Stanley, and the 25th would be more than fair return for most teams in the NHL.

Armia alone would be worth a early-mid 2nd round imo. He's a player that is arguably the Jets best defensive forward, (Leads the Jets in takeaways, and is part of one of the best shutdown lines in the NHL) and has improved his point totals each year since he's been on the Jets. With that being said, I don't think the Jets trade him. He can be resigned hopefully Calle Jarnkrok style at 12mill/6yrs, and if he is that will be great value even if he improves one more time next year before plateauing.

Lemieux would be worth somewhere in the 3rd round, but I doubt the Jets trade him until they give him a shot in the NHL and see what he does unless they get good return. With all the raises the Jets need to hand out, I think the Jets strategy will be to make their bottom 6 even younger, which works when you have guys like Lemieux, Appleton, and Vesalainen coming down the pipe.
