There's enough of a gap between Svechnikov and the rest of the field that it'll cost Montreal more than sub-par AHL goalie and a 2nd round pick in order to swap 1st rounders with Carolina.

The Svechnikov's trade isn't suitable. You move up 1 spot to get a player that you don't know if the 3rd pick will be better... To be honest, I thnk MTL should pick Kotkaniemi or Hugues, but it's my feeling. The Pacioretty trade, i'm agree to try to get a young center but with all this package, I think you'll get a better return. Vilardi has a great potential but he do nothing in the NHL.
