Description
This is a long shot possibility. The Montreal Canadiens basically have two options:
1. Keep Galchenyuk and trading Pacioretty (which is probable considering he has a stability that he hasn't had in a long time)
2. Trading him and keeping Pacioretty long term (his trade value is higher than Pacioretty right now and Pacioretty can have a bounce back year)
I would like to keep Galchenyuk. He has a great shot, puck skills and good size that is seriously lacking on the Montreal Canadiens roster. However, he still has a major weakness: His defensive game. So, my long shot proposition is to trade him for Nino Niedereitter. Minnesota is in need of flashy players like Galchenyuk. He has the chance to break out offensively in Minnesota, a team for which he would love playing considering he is from Wisconsin. Montreal is proud when they have a good defensive game. He is the kind of forward that Montreal would love to have. The guy who battles around the corners and who has a good forechecking ability. He would fit like a glove with Max Pacioretty plus Philip Danault, and Jonathan Drouin benefits when he has Byron and Gallagher on his side.
Mark my words: I would love to keep Galchenyuck, especially if they draft Svechnikov or Zadina. But if they choose long-term prospects instead, like drafting Kotkaniemi or Hughes, trading Galchenyuck would be a possibility in my eyes. Plus, Niederreiter is a clutch defensive player who excels when he is put in the right place. He was not in his place in Minnesota this year, and his clutch ability was affected as a result. I also added Tomas Plekanec. His priority is to return in Montreal because his family lives there.

honestly, trading Galchenyuk for just Nino isn't enough in my opinion.
The value is the same or close, but is there much a difference in the player other then the Defensive part for Galchenyuk?
MTL already lacks a scoring punch, trading a good offensive player for a better defensive player really doesn't help them.
I like Nino, but not for one of our most dangerous offensive players.
