I think if SJS goes into next season with Jumbo still as their #1C they'll be taking a step back next season. Probably see Pavs take that spot with Hertl as the #1RW.

This is probably why Tavares to San Jose makes a ton of sense. He's around the age of the current core and San Jose seems to always be on the verge of a deep run. It's comical how often they run into hot teams. No idea how they get the money to work without Tierney and Hertl taking about $1M less each, Thornton taking a huge discount, and moving Boedker out.

Ooof buddy, 4.2 for Tierney? Don't get me wrong, I like Tierney, but he is a 3rd line C at best, and you just don't pay third line C's 2nd line center money. He's had a single decent 3rd liner season, so the Sharks certainly aren't going to pay him that amount of money for that long. A 2 year deal around 2.5 is more realistic for him to prove he deserves a longer term contract. We have just too many 3rd line C coming up in our system (Gambrell, Norris, Suomola) to overpay Tierney. Also, paying Jumbo less than Chris is less than ideal. DeMelo is being overpaid as he's fairly expendable. He's a 1.3M player on a one year. Hertl based on his last contract is targeted at no more and $5M per season. You don't want to overpay this season, because of the extensions you need to have the money for next season.
