That's just a complimentary piece, it's the main pieces that concern me, which is the roster player coming back and the 1st rd pick. The 1st is alright i guess at 25th overall, but isn't Perreault more of a winger, and a 3rd liner no less. Not really anything there that interests me with his game, for Patches anyways. I would rather you include Roslovic than Perreault, as I'd think he's NHL ready. Petan is a project.
Perrault is a 3rd liner only because Kyle Connor, and Ehlers were far better than anyone thought they would be, including the Jets. Before Connor arrived with a 30G rookie season Perrault was our 1st line LW. Perrault will routinely get in the 40-50 point range, and is one of the top 10 possession players in the league. He plays to the offensive standard of a top 6 player in every sense, and his best feature is spiking his linemates' offense on every line he plays on. The Habs need to figure out their centre situation, but if you have Galchenyuk playing centre it is not unrealistic that Perrault could be your 1LW.
By nature of the fact that Patches has a year left on his contract, contenders looking for upgrades will be the teams trading for him. As far as the disparity in talent from the rental you guys send out to what you get back, I think the only team that could match Perrault would be Craig Smith from Nashville, and they likely won't be offering the 1st with a point-a-game AHL prospect. Petan is definitely a project, but I am also firmly of the belief that if you can contribute to 52 goals in 52 AHL games, you have earned a shot at the NHL with linemates with more offensive prowess than Chris Thorburn.
Anyways, despite my shameless rant to defend the besmirched honor of Matthieu Perrault, I do appreciate the input. I hope you guys have a good rebound year. Cheers!
