Really well thought out roster. Very reasonable trades.

Zero veteran right wings in the starting lineup could turn into more of a liability than just starting with two and letting four kids battle for two spots in training camp. A lot more.

Trading a first round pick for Kevin Shattenkirk got the Caps one playoff goal in two rounds. The Oilers' pick will be about ten spots higher, and they'll have to pay Shattenkirk a lot more money to disappoint them. Don't play yourself.

Arizona is not dropping back for Ryan Strome let alone a cap dump on top of that

Yeah Shattenkirk let it be known, That he has no desire to play in Canada period. He's not leaving the Rangers for the Oilers. I can see him with another Eastern Conference club. Before i see him heading for Edmonton.

If (and it's a BIG IF) Arizona felt that they really liked a player they knew would be available at 10th overall, I could see that first trade working. As it stands there's a pretty big drop-off from 5 to 10, so maybe it would be more enticing to the Yotes if Edmonton sent their high 2018 2nd instead of their 2019.

You are way off base, they aren't moving back to acquire Strome and Kassian they are moving back to pick they player they want while getting additional assets in return for doing so. I am liking the way that ARI trade works out. Arizona is likely looking for a forward probably a center if they are moving back, they likely have a shot at Veleno, Hayton, Kotkaniemi and an outside shot at Wahlstrom all of which are going to need time in the minors. The Oilers need a Dman that can develop quick and slot in to the line up in 2 years or less, Dobson, Hughes, or Boqvist i think all have that ability. Kassian and Strome provide a little bit of NHL vet experience to the forward group on a team sorely lacking it and keeps them under their apparent internal cap of $65M.

I would have to agree with you on the Shatt trade, the guy wants to be close to home.
